Mercedes has announced today that they’ll be investing more than € 600 Million in the company’s trucks, buses and components production in Brazil from 2009 to 2011. Already the sales leader in both the Brazilian bus and truck segments with market shares of 50 percent and 31 percent, respectively, the resources will allow Mercedes to further increase capacity at their plant in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, while additional benefits will include the modernization of production processes, the improvement of the logistics system and the increase of the local content rate in the products.

TRAVERSE CITY: US automaker Chrysler LLC is seeking manufacturing alliances with other automakers in the face of a steep downturn in US auto sales.

Chrysler has “the flexibility” to perform contract manufacturing and will continue to pursue such opportunities to “generate cash as a smaller company,” Frank Ewasyshyn, Chrysler’s executive vice president in charge of manufacturing, said at an industry forum in Traverse City, Michigan.

A record number of 2472 new cars were sold in the first half of 2008 compared to 2015 in the same period during 2007.

The automotive supply group Dana Holding is to cut about 3,000 jobs, or about 9 per cent of its workforce, in a further sign of trouble for the North American car industry.

The Toledo, Ohio-based company, which emerged from bankruptcy protection in January, made the announcement as it reported a wider quarterly net loss and lowered its outlook for full-year revenue.

According to new research from Mercedes-Benz World, a third of Brits learn to drive with their friends and family. Of these, 20 per cent admitted to having an argument, 13 per cent revealed they had shouted or screamed at each other and nine per cent had the “teacher†grab the steering wheel mid-lesson.

A further seven per cent revealed that their family feuding had led to either the learner having to stop and get out, the passenger using the handbrake whilst driving, or the ultimate embarrassment - being made to swap over part way through the lesson and be driven home.

NEW DELHI: The luxury car market is heading for a German finish. The two luxury marques—Mercedes-Benz and BMW—are racing against each other to get the coveted top slot in the segment.

BMW India, on the back of 70% growth in sales, is vying to clinch the top slot from Mercedes-Benz, it’s worldwide bete noire, to emerge as the leader of the luxury car market in India. BMW has reduced its sales gap with Mercedes to 411 cars in the January-July period this year from 1,104 cars in 2007.

The company has also increased its sales target to 2,800 from the earlier 2,000 cars for 2008, and aims to surpass Mercedes-Benz sales in India by 2010.
