The new-generation Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster has won the Internet Auto Award 2008. Voted top in the Convertibles & Roadsters category, it received the prestigious CAROLINA award.

This year again over 300,000 people cast their votes in Europe’s largest Internet public award. 154 vehicles in nine categories were judged by Internet users of AutoScout24 throughout Europe. From a line-up totalling 18 high-quality convertibles and roadsters competing for the award, they voted the Mercedes-Benz SL as their favourite.

Mercedes-Benz Canada reported today its best
September ever with a total of 2,101 Mercedes-Benz and smart combined units
registered for the month. This is up 741 units or 54.5% compared to September
2007, and brings the year-to-date total to 18,573 units; an increase of 33.3%
compared to this time last year and enough to already surpass total year-end
sales results for 2007 with one quarter still remaining.

Mercedes-Benz now surpasses with the new SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S the SLR McLaren Roadster. Both vehicles feature a fully retractable folding soft top capable of withstanding the high speed and are made of carbon fibre. This endows both models with a high degree of safety and torsional stiffness. In addition to increased power, the new two-seater cabriolet features more dynamic suspension tuning and improved aerodynamics. The new SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S is limited to 150 vehicles and predominantly hand-built at theFormula 1 workshops of McLaren in Woking (England). It will be availablefrom January 1, 2009.

Mercedes-Benz’s ConceptFASCINATION is a sporty wagon that makes its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. The concept may preview the look of the next generation production CLK-Class coupe. Compared with the current CLK, this new vehicle’s front hood is more muscular, featuring more surface creases. Another fundamental difference: rhomboid headlights that replace the current round ones.

2008-09-22 - Mercedes-Benz is launching its first passenger car model equipped with a hybrid drive system in summer 2009: the S400 Blue Hybrid. The new model is based on the S350 and features a modified drivetrain. This encompasses a further development of the 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine, an additional magneto-electric motor, the 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission specially configured for the hybrid module, the necessary operating and control electronics, the transformer and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery. Thanks to its compact dimensions and modular design, the additional weight of the overall system is only 75 kilograms - including the comprehensive safety systems.

DETROIT (Reuters) - Chrysler LLC has drawn interest from international and North American parties for the possible sale of its high-performance Dodge Viper sports car line, Vice Chairman and President Jim Press told reporters on Wednesday.

Chrysler in late August announced it was exploring the sale of the Viper sports car business as part of its effort to generate cash and ride out the deepening U.S. auto industry downturn. The Viper is a low-volume V10-powered sports car first produced in 1992.

German carmaker Daimler is joining forces with RWE

German carmaker Daimler is joining forces with RWE, one of the country’s largest energy providers, to create a network of electric cars and charging stations in Berlin.

A select group of Berlin motorists will get subsidized electric cars as part of an experiment launched Friday, Sept 5 by Daimler and leading German energy company, RWE.

German stocks fell as oil advanced for a third day, damping the earnings outlook for automakers and airlines.

Daimler AG, the world’s second-largest maker of luxury cars, and Deutsche Lufthansa AG led a retreat among shares sensitive to swings in crude prices. A report showed an unexpected decline in U.S. inventories and Tropical Storm Gustav is forecast to enter the Gulf of Mexico, home to more than a fifth of U.S. production. Infineon Technologies AG, Europe’s second-largest chipmaker, fell the most in five weeks. Foxconn International Holdings Ltd. said profit fell more than estimated.
